THE NEXT INSTANT FROM NOW
CAN BE A NEW BEGINNINGI Everyone thinks of New Years as a time to make new resolutions, to improve his life, establish better habits, etc., Some even recognize that the beginning of each day is actually the start of a new parcel of life. Let us not forget that at any given instant we can begin a new resolve which may complete change the course of our life. It can be a resolve having to do with your physique--such as that from the next instant you will follow a course of exercises to improve your poroportions, or should you be fat that you will begin immediately that sensible diet you have on file. Or perhaps you have long be been considering giving up the harmful habits of smoking, excessive drinking, various ways of wasting time. In the realm of emotions you may recognize the need to give up outbursts of temper, hatred based on selfishness, and other negative attitudes. While in some facets of life you may be a bit confused and require further introspection or perhaps outside counselling, in most cases you already know what needs to be done, but are just putting off getting started, not quite knowing when you should begin--or perhaps you subconsciously want an outside force (independent of your own effort) to do the work for you. But if you are indeed Captain of your soul, you and you alone have the conscious direction of your mind. And your past experience will prove to you that your attitude and state of mind has often been far more significant in directing the course of your life than outside factors, no matter how important they seemed at the time. So once you are convinced that a course of action in your mind is right, dont wait until New Years, or even tomorrow to put it into effect, but begin the very next instant. This is one of the cardinal rules for success in life. if though you try you fail (or backslide), as soon as you become fully conscious of your error, dont say you'll begin again tomorrow--but begin again the next instant. This philosophy will give you a new control over life you never believed possible. Give it a try!

"WEE GEORDIE" NOT A BULGING MUSCLE MAN. Advertisements for the excellent English motion picture film "Wee Geordie" show a drawing of a superman whose bulging definition would win him any "Most Muscular Man" contest. But to paraphrase one of the characters of the film, the build of Bill Travers, the stor, is mostly what the good Lord gave him, and could hardly have been the result of formal training. In one scne particularly where Geordie is training in a gym among other athletes, the comparison of arm and chest size and definition is most unfavorable, since the plot calls for not just an average nice guy, but rather a guy build like a brick out-house with muscles on top of his muscles. Mr Travers is a splendid actor, a tall, big boned normal built mon--but in all truth the film would have been better had he kept his clothes on. The story is charming, telling of a 7 stone (84 lb) weakling Scottish youth, picked on, made fun of by his school mates and sweetheart who reads an advertisement of a Muscle Building course, and promptly sends off the 10 schillings for his first lesson. Progress is rapid, and he soon turns from a Wee fellow into a giant (in the probable course of 6 years or so) He becomes interested in "throwing the hammer" and becomes a champion as long as his "Jeane" is at hand to give him encouragement. Selected to represent Britain in the Olympics, he gets quite homesick, becomes involved with the champion lady shot-put of Denmark (who incidently seemed to have more muscles than Mr Travers), and though his heart and intentions are pure, he has a difficult time explaining things back home. The film is soft, gentle comedy, and we dont feel it actually ridicules bodybuilding as have some films (such as Athena), but rather it gives a good natured account of a clean-minded young fellow who wants to improve himself and make himself fine and strong--not to be better than his fellows, but just for the sake of realizing his complete destiny as a man.
